I can’t decide..on this one subject

March 7, 2010

I know it’s been a long time since i’ve posted and i’ve probaly had one or two people glance at it since it’s creation but i’ve decided I need the Internet users of the worlds help.

For my FMP (Final Major Project) I’m doing magazine focuisng on Comics,Anime and Manga and SCFI. I have few feature ready for comic and anime and manga but i’ve drawn a blank for SCFI. So I decided to do a profile artilce on a character but i’m stuck between Snake Eyes from G.I Joe and Optimous Prime from Transformers. So since the theme of my magazine is give the readers a voice I decided to come up a poll to see who choose which. I will also use the results from here to be totalled up from results from popular role playing website Gaia online.

Avatar (I just have to talk about this)

January 6, 2010

I may have seen it a while ago but the imagery will stay with me forever as I set down to watch Avatar, after hearing lots and lots of positive hype I sat down ready to be entertained, not to be dragged into a world as clear and as vibrant as the most beautiful day of summer but this time without serene tribal blue aliens exploring a vibrant leafy world alongside the stunningly beautiful monsters of the world of Pandora.Of course this wasn’t the only beauty, for those weapon fanatics and lovers of technology you’ll love seeing robotic mechas and hi-tech gun ships enjoying their short screen time before being beaten down due to their unjust activities. So enjoy a strong contrast of industry and nature as it’s finest (just remember the machines are the bad guys).

The story itself isn’t so fresh but enjoyable. It starts with Jake Sully, a marine confined to a wheel chair after an accident in action who’s been offered a chance of the life time as his scientist twin brother is killed and he is need to be replace for the Avatar system because of his similar DNA.  The Avatar system is basically transferring your conscience to an artificially grown body mixed with the DNA of natives of Pandora- the Na’vi (like playing a virtual reality game in the real world). Jake arrives to find himself torn between the heartless corporations and solders wishing to tear down the scared ‘Tree of Souls’ for profit or side with the researchers curious to learn more about the tribal Native American like Na’vi, as Jake struggled to make his connection his goes where no human has gone before as he is accepted into a Na’vi tribe and get the chance to study them up close for all their glory. As Jake delves further into their stunning spiritual world he falls in the love with the chiefs daughter- Neytiri promised to marry the tribes best warrior Tsu’Tey whilst questioning his orders to undermine the trust of his new found culture with the promise of having the chance to walk again as a human.

Ok the plot mirrors the Americans Manifest destiny conflicts with the Native Americans but pulls it of so well clearly drawing the lines between good and evil. Again this is a film that deserves to more than two and half hours long needing the time to tell the breath-taking story and under pinning the message that the bumbling ran before you can walk nature can pay off. With enough romance, drama and action enough for all the family to be entertained with no toilet breaks. Yes I bought into the hype but I challenge anyone not wacth this film with your full attention and not be in awe as James Camerons beautifully crafted world of imagination.

So many subjects can I come up with a clever name for this entry ?

So to fall back on an old post i’m going to whine about reality tv. I’ve just suddenly realised that the consitentantly funny My name is Earl had been abruptly canceled with no reason on an irritating cliff hanger. So while skilled actors find themselfs out the job and I loose something to do mid year at 9 oclock whilst wacthing E4 I find reality gunk from the US is imported and coutinues to clog of the listings. I mean what season is Beauty and the Geek on ? and for the same fixed OTT ending. Even thouh Channel 4 has finally got the message that no one wants to wacth Big Brother or Wifeswap the US TV networks seems to persist. I mean surely the US like us UKians (fingers crossed that’ll cacth on ) who share my theories are sick of yearly singing contests like X factor and Amercian Idol.

So from my post yesterday when I decided to go any pursue such an intellectual activity of wacthing the short live Avengers cartoon (comic not cult tv show) which is the weakest and toyeitic of the Marvel animated universe. I only attempted to wacth it again as I more interested in Caps guest star which to be far was waay to cheesy and short, sprouting cliche one liners and be that nice cheerful guy that undermines the current leader.

Anyways on the subject of animation and superheros i’ve been enjoying the latest incarnation of Capcom’s mascott Megaman known as Megaman Star force in which young Geo Stellar is merged with an alien from the planet FM named Omegesis on the run with an ultimate weapon, together they are the new superhero Megaman defending Earth against the evil FMians. Ok it suffers from filler build up, but it’s good stuff with great action scenes and good layered writing with promosing future plots. Plus again it’s great characers design. It carries a lot of themes like viruses from NT warrior and one young kids out-witting their dim witted elders and using strange yet green methods to move around like scooter and skates. Like any anime it has a few episodes for character development and set the line before the hero takes a fall and comes back ten times as awesome.

– 9 more sleeps to go

So here I am again boring you all happy to tell you the Christmas spirit has struck after a good final day of college. Now every year the green members of the population highlight the awful waste of packaging and wrapping. Now to keep in spirit with the ‘one man can make a difference’ i’ve decided not to send Christmas cards to my direct friends as I beleive it’s a waste and I the sentiment is better in person.

Also I smaller note i’ve gone all retro and sort of adding onto an old post about noughties retro. Now it’s all late 90’s animations specfically Spider-man Unlimited. Now not many know that after the sucess of the Spider-man animated series a spin off was produced during the techno-tastic 99 to 2000. The stories focuses on our neighbourhood friendly Spider-man becomes our Inter-planetry Spider-man as he takes it upon himself to rescue intrepid astronaut John Jameson stranded on ‘counter Earth’ (a planet on the other side of the Sun with many similarties with Earth) with the two slivery symboties Venom and Carnage.

Sadly it never took off as it failed to comepte with the Pokemon sensation and only lasted 13 episodes on a cliff hanger. Ok it’s a little dated in terms of animation and spin off and standard Spidey conventions (like wow ! another Green Goblin ? and how does Peter know Spider-man ?) but a little ahead of it’s time in terms of technology like with Spidey’s new nano bot suit so Spidey doesn’t got gased and actually can fight against the Venom and Carnage using sonics (which I don’t understand why it was never exploited in their many ecounters), plus theirs some great humour like when Peter makes the voyage to Counter Earth he announces Spider-man is leaving and with not attempt to disguise his voice says Peter Parker’s tagging along and actually says ‘If you believe that, you’ll be belieive anything’, a great punch at the convient Peter/Spider-man links.

So now to coutinue the theme i’m going to sit down and wacth the toyestic short live Avengers cartoon just to see what good old Cap will be like 🙂

Hmm what could I post ?

December 3, 2009

It’s been a long time since my last post as college and various over adventures have consumed my life so this is a mix post I guess.

First of I want to speculate at how it seems all reality tv seems to getting its long deserved wipeout, with the resounding words Big Brother is drawing to it’s final series as it seems to last longer and longer every year but finally the last few loyal fans have given up on it. While it seems favourites like the X-factor with the hole Jedward affair has opened peoples eyes to the usual manipulation of the production team in shows like these. It might be time to invest all the funding into a decent Saturday tv show which isn’t camp or slowly getting stale, since Merlyns dragged along acting as filler between the tumiphant return of Doctor Who, i’m looking for a show on TV on Saturday which isn’t predictable and doesn’t feel like someones wacthed to many predictable American TV shows. Primeval was good until the monster a week theme wore it self out. On a lighter note I miss Robin Hood, it was a little tame but that was the time slot but the stories weren’t to worn of formatted.

Now onto music, while on my long surfs of Facebook I came along the latest Lady GaGa song ‘Christmas tree’, in the first second I expected another disco demented beat but was shocked to find so much inuendeo it was blantely obvious. Despite being a good song it’s so morally wrong and seems to defeat the family point of christmas.

Now just currently i’ve swicthed over to the Daily Show with Jon Stewart time for some culture as all i’ve seen to have wacthed on my four day weekend (jealous ?, well don’t be all I did mostly was battle through coursework) is the small bank of Dragon Ball Z movies set among which was were supposedly set in alternate scenarios (for most of them), ok Akira Toriyama has skill with writing long enthralling journies of hyper violent fairy tales so crammming an entire arc into under an hour or so is a struggle for a writer like him so aspects of the story are neglected, but of course the fight scenes make up for all it’s falllings..

So I solved the posting thing…

Vampires (Just vampires no puns !, just RANT !)

November 7, 2009

As you may have taken from the posts titles this may have something to do with that totally underused device vampires.

Now the sarcastic part of the posts over let me take second to explain the rant. It’s about this time around the start of the Halloween which is obvious since vampires fit into the whole spooky thing but every year in films and tv it becomes literally bombared with all these vampire themed products like Trueblood, Moonlighting, Blade film and series and finally the mother of it all Twilight.

Ok it was all pretty cool and fresh at one point but it’s now just gotten stale and seems more writers sitting around and going ‘hmmmm let’s have a vampire show crossed with erm….a teenage love story, oh no that’s done ?, I know let’s add in a tone of adult themes and slightly one of the characters’. Frankly vampires have been so played out it’s boring. There either sweet and friendly, evil or just borrwoing from any other steortype like the cookey hippy like Alice from Twlight. Plus it’s always vampires are strong and superior and humans are weak and ignorant to ntoice anything wrong excpet a few who are totally useless. It was the story in Blade and the ridiclous close minded nature of the Bella’s dad in Twilight.

I think out of all mythical creatures it’s over used and tend’s to be either more camp and erotic and generally less frightening. I mean vampires were supposed to be scary not lusty objects of affection, this is why I so wish a Blade-style vampire hunter would somehow find a way to travel worlds and get rid of all of them, every generic un-original remagigng of them. I mean I hear their now a whole genre dedicated to Vampire romance, oh i’m so scared of the brooding guy with his top of wow his senstivity could kill me while the leather wearing girl boosting the sex appeal to bring in more revenue.

Plus their are much more powerful and scary creatures like werewolves and various b-movie subjects like Frankenstien that deserves more of a lick of paint then the Cullens..

Ok now realising it i’m slightly hypocritical as i’ve wacthed and enjoyed Blade, seen Twlight and struggling to finish the books, but I wacthed Blade because of the comic book vibe and Twilight as someone took the effort to buy me the book’s so i’ll at least try to read them once. So from now on i’ll only deign an interest in which smug superoir vampires are pwned thank’s to thier own arrogance in the most painful manner.

Tell no one: The review you shouldn’t tell anyone about

October 27, 2009

Ok during a special school film week our group was invited to see the mind expnading film ‘Tell no lies’. Ok as first I was expecting a dull love film with clever cerebal aspects but to be honest I was quite suprised. I stumbled in on a clever and compelling film exceeding my expectations and not boring me instantly in may seat.

The story follows young doctor Alex struggling to get over the apparent murder of his loving wife Margot. On the eighth year anviersary of Margot’s death Alex recieves a mysterious email with a live link to a train station the chilling image of Margot fleeting past. As Alex begins to unravel the sticthing of a much darker secert all around him things begin to go horribly wrong as he founds himself being pursued by the law on trumped up charges of beating a mysterious group of cloak and dagger killers, while struggling to grapple around the dark life his Margot has lived and possibly is still living…In terms of pace this chugs along slowly to it’s Western genre counterparts yet is compelling enough to wacth to the end without loosing you’re attention. What also makes this stand out from it’s the Western thriller or action genre is the more cerbeal dialgoue take on the genre. You’re going to need to keep up with the torrent of subtitle but is deffinately worth doing so. However the actions scenes aren’t anything to shout about but tend to be clever and suitable to the skill set of docotor who chain smokes. Each character seems to have sutiable purpose in the script and none conforming to a stereotype without having a clever cerbeal outlook to the character, like the police detective obessed with energy conservation.

Overall this film is worth it’s two hour show time just come in with you’re brain engaged and a taste for some clever writing and humour and probaly some of the most inspirational and noble traits being expertly played out on the screen.
